Questions people ask about Bahamas couriers
Answered from the Customs Department's booklet and licensing rules. The estimator on the front page works the Customs part of any courier bill.
What does a courier in The Bahamas actually do for an online order?
A licensed courier gives you a US receiving address, flies or ships the parcel to The Bahamas, files the C18A parcel declaration with Customs, pays the duty, processing fee, levy and VAT, and collects that from you with its own handling charge when you pick up or take delivery.
How much do Bahamas couriers charge?
Two things: the Customs charges, which are the same whichever courier you use because they follow the tariff and the booklet method, and the courier's own handling fee, usually per package and per pound. Ask for the handling rate before you ship, and run the item through the estimator so you know the Customs part.
Is a courier licensed by Customs different from a shipping company?
A courier licence lets the holder run a bonded courier warehouse and file the C18A parcel declaration for you. Freight forwarders and shipping agents move cargo, and many also hold a broker licence so they can file formal entries. Every company on this page is on the Customs Department's licensed listing.
When do I need a customs broker instead of a courier?
For vehicles, boats, containers, commercial stock and concession claims. Those need a C13 entry filed in Click2Clear by a licensed broker. Personal parcels and online orders go through a courier.
Which islands have licensed couriers?
Most are in New Providence and Grand Bahama, with licensed couriers also serving Abaco, Andros, Eleuthera, Exuma, Cat Island, Long Island and other Family Islands. Use the island filter to see who serves yours.
